Overview
Combat Sim is a level design assignment I did at VFS. Main mechanics and tools provided before hand.
Assignment was to give a level with one stealth and two combat beats, where player needs to infiltrate a position, kill the guards then ambushed by additional defenders.
Level
Main character needs to infiltrate and destroy high secure complex guarded by robots. But whole operation is just a set-up. Player gets ambushed by hidden guards and needs escape alive.

Stealth Section
Stealth section is initial preparation for two upcoming combat beats. In this section players collect ammo and guns and get comfortable with the movement mechanic of the game.
To achieve a more meaningful start, player starts from the roof of the complex and jumps thru the vent in order to start the mission.
First security camera is easy to overcome. Player’s movement is mostly restricted by geometry. Only thing player can do is move forward and crouching puts player in hidden state since walls all taller enough.
This section serves as a basic movement tutorial as well.
In this section player needs to navigate behind the boxes. Cameras has basic pattern and slow rotating speed and they give clear opening for player thru their rotation cycle.
This time security camera assisted with a moving tripwire. Player needs to follow and understand two different movement patterns and find the right time to rush to the door.
Players can hide from the sight of the camera using different environmental pieces and rush to the door, there is a hidden wire trap to put players in a stressful situation and force them to retreat and look for patterns.
This section highly inspired by classical agent scene in movies. Players find themselves in narrow hall and need to jump and dodge moving wire traps.
Combat Section - Assault
Player faces with the first guard, killing first guard does not trigger other guards defensive state. To make first encounter easier first enemy has lower hitpoints than the other ones.
After killing the first guard players navigate to the upper floor where they meet with heavy resistance from stationary watchman and additional two guards.
Combat Section - Defend
After initiating the self destruct, players ambushed by remaining guards in the facility. Players find themselves in very open position and need to find a cover or use run and gun tactics.
Hidden Loot
Extra weapons and ammo scattered across the level. Every loot pile marked with a flashing question mark billboard. Players can take additional risks during their stealth section in order to get have better guns for the combat section.
